FAQs

Here are some answers to questions that are often asked:

Why treated rope have burning smell ?

The treated ropes can have a burning smell and that is normal. They are prepared on order with love and we singed off hairs over gas flame.

You have to leave the ropes in the open air, the smell goes naturally after a few days.

Is your packaging discrete?

All orders are sent out in plain heavy-duty padded mailing envelopes or cardboards. The company name is not shown on the outside of the packaging. Where a customs form (CN22) is required, goods are described suitably vaguely as 'craft supplies' and/or 'instructional DVDs'.

What about import duty and tax?

EU

Since we send from France you will have no import duty and tax.

Worldwide

Most countries have duty free allowances for personal purchases. However, as duty free allowances are subject to change and each state have its own sales tax regime, find out about local regulations.

Don't assume you will have extra to pay; you might be pleasantly surprised.

How fast do you ship?

You can find the different delays here Shipping & Returns.

We understand you’re ready to use your ropes!

Please bear in mind that different treatments take time. Especially washed ropes dry more or less quickly depending on weather.

Due to travel commitments, shibari events or holidays the company is temporarily closed.

See 'Rope care & Choice'

Is your rope rated or load tested?

Manufacturers tend not to quote load ratings for natural fibre rope since shorter natural fibres are not as predictable as monofilament synthetics used in climbing ropes etc.. Natural fibre can be affected by the type and age of plant, harvest conditions, treatment, rot, pests, wear and other factors, so accurate measurements are not possible. For legal reasons, we can only advise you to used rated equipment for safety critical applications and cannot endorse any of the rope on sale here for suspension of live loads.

We have some experiments on breaking strain using natural fibre ropes. The results are sobering as it is very easy to generate forces of over 250% of the weight of the load.

Do you do custom orders?

Yes! We can supply any length you need. If there's something special you are after, let us know and we will see what we can do.
