  1. Its okay... 2 Star Review

Posted by on 13th Apr 2014

This video unfortunately has to be viewed in the context of the material that is already available free of charge on the internet - and there is a lot of it.

The safety stuff is great - but Esinem has already made that available freely and do we really need the same information repeated on both DVDs?

The box tie is well explained, but there is an annotated (better) version of the same video online by Esinem. As such what this video mostly does is say things like hey you can tie the single column tie to a leg.... or arm....or waist! and repeats this with each tie. There is actually very little real content. The video would be useful for a complete novice - but for most people i think the amount on it really doesn't justify the 45 price tag.

I had hoped for far more in the way of Japanese content from one of the leading Japanese riggers..but was disappointed.

    Esinem says:

Thank you for your feedback, It's true there are some excellent free videos on-line. There are also some that are a liability. If you can tell which is which, you are very advanced already. Then, one needs to create a structured way of learning as I do in the DVDs and on-line version. However, I think the most important element, so often missed in 'paint by numbers' tutorials, is how you apply and handle rope. The 'tying people, not parcels' element.

Yes, safety was repeated as it was originally intended that they would be sold separately and as a set. Everyone bought the set :-)

Congratulations! You have identified the one thing that simplifies shibari, namely that the single column tie is the building brick from which almost everything is constructed, e.g. box-tie/gote is essentially 5 single column ties closed in different ways.

Our intention was to take somebody from knowing nothing to the basic skills and there is a finite limit on 2 DVDs. As far as I know, there is no other single product that comes near to doing this.

I recommend some of the more advanced tutorials on ShibariClasses.com if you find this beginners' guide too basic. There we show the latest techniques in more depth than any other tutorials available.

  2. Wonderful DVD 5 Star Review

I'm very new in the World of rope and bondage, and the DVD answers so many basic questions. :-)

  3. Well thought out, well made. 5 Star Review

I was very inspired by the attention to safety. The explanations are straight forward and easy to follow. I look forward to trying out more of the techniques.
    Well Done!
